Estonia, officially the Republic of Estonia (in Estonian: Eesti or Eesti vabariik) is a country in North East of the European Union, bordering with Russia from the east and Latvia from the south. The Baltic Sea separates it from Finland in the north by the Gulf of Finland and from Sweden in the west.

Estonia has a population of just 1,3 million inhabitants, but it´s territory is larger than Denmark or Holland. Almost 50% of the territory is covered with forest.

Estonia has been a member of the European Union since 1 May 2004 and of NATO since 29 March 2004.

Tartu - City of Good Thoughts

Tartu is a university town and a city of youth. The time-honoured university, museum-rich and Hanseatic city of Tartu lies on the banks of the river Emajõgi. The Emajõgi river connects the two largest lakes of Estonia and flows for the lengt of 10 km within the city limits and adds colour to the city. The capital of Southern-Estonia is oldest city in the Baltic States. The first written records of Tartu date from 1030. Tartu, with its population of 98 473 (data from 1.01.2009) in an area of 38,8 km2, is the second largest city of Estonia, but the largest in terms of student population.
